Introducing Ju-Li

We would like to introduce you to Ju-Li, Ju-Li is 21 years old and lives in an adult residential care home. Ju-li has Angelman Syndrome, Epilepsy, Chronic Kidney Disease, Scoliosis, Aspiration, Gastroesophageal Reflux, a history of spontaneous fractures and Osteoporosis. Standing therapy has been advised for Ju-Li because of her postural problems so she already had postural support equipment before trying the Supine Stander. Ju-Li now uses the Size 3 Supine Stander with a large flexion pad, spacer block, arched foam pad, large padded strap, thin thoracic strap, integral strap and head pad cushion. Read below what Ju-Li’ s therapist had to say about the Supine Stander by Jenx.

Through use of the Supine stander, Ju-Li has increased bone density and is able to maintain her current range of movement a lot better. The Supine Stander supports her digestion as she can stand up while she feeds, this in turn helps with the reflux she suffers from, post feeding. There has been a positive psychological impact on Ju-Li as it enhances bladder and bowel quality, meaning she has less discomfort, so ultimately is happier. The Supine gives her a sense of normality because she is able to interact with others while at eye-level, which is something she didn’t experience before. There are aslo increased physical benefits for her upper limbs by carrying out functional tasks using the tray.

The reaction to the Supine stander has been very positive. It’s very easy to access Ju-Li and hoist her into the stander and it’s easy to manoeuvre around because the Supine operates on individual wheels. Due to it’s battery operated board movement, there is minimal handling needed to move the equipment from horizontal to an upright position, causing less strain for carers.  Ju-Li looks very comfortable in the stander and is s supported comfortably which alleviates any cause for distress.

It’s a very adaptable standing system which can be used for other patients with different heights and weights too. It can achieve a good postural alignment which is definitely needed for Ju-Li and will benefit her greatly. Ju-Li is able to feel safe and secure in the standing frame when we initially position her (in a horizontal position) right through the transition to upright standing, this is due to the supportive straps and stability of the frame. This transition can be scary and distressing in other cases, but is not the case with the Supine due to it’s design.

The Supine is a very supportive frame and neutral alignment can be achieved with the suitable supports, which is integral to Ju-Li’s postural support. It is ideal for use in their residential care home, whcih means Ju-Li can have the integral support she needs while she’s away from home, making it an enjoyable place for her to be.Introducing_Ju-Li_Image_2
